Fable cynique, la proposition de Benoit Ménard pour Short reprend un vocabulaire cher à l’artiste. Peinture au goudron, raticides ou canettes de boisson énergisante s’agencent dans un espace transformé en territoire atemporel. Évoquant une archéologie en devenir, le substrat érigé sur les murs, loin d’être fossile, nous met face à notre ambivalence consumériste. Toxico-thérapeutique, poison et remède à la fois, le monstre chimique — déployé sous forme d’un mandala stéréoscopique — se rappelle à nous dans un rituel transgressif. Puisant dans la culture globale, Benoit Ménard joue dans un champ référentiel emprunté tant à la science-fiction qu’aux rituels primitifs, dans une recomposition aux allures de vanité contemporaine.
